I met this water beetle one night when I stepped out to go switch laundry. It was upside down on my porch. It must have been attracted to the light, hit the house, then fell. At first glance, I thought it might a cockroach since it was so big. I was nervous about handling it, but it wasn’t as intimidating once I got a closer look at its mouth-parts (I didn’t see the sharp fangs at the time). This was definitely one of the coolest encounters I’ve had this year.

I managed to get Ceinwyn to fall asleep an hour earlier last night (around midnight) and after hitting the alarm 4x, I crawled out of bed an hour earlier than I did yesterday morning.
Shiatsu stretching took me 15 minutes. I tried to meditate for 10 minutes afterwards, but my cat told me not to take it too seriously as he repeatedly tried to steal my prayer beads.
Then I brewed coffee, cleaned up cat puke twice, and after switching computers I was finally able to pull up this video to try exercising with. Some of the moves were kinda difficult for me (which proves how out of shape I am) but I’m still willing to try again and hopefully improve.
I weighed myself and the scale said 220.0 lbs exactly, so my estimate was correct.
It’s dark and rainy today, but I’ve got plenty of things to keep me busy indoors, like always…
That’s the plan, anyway. Let’s see if I can stick to it.
Yesterday, I bought an exercise ball, a pair of 5 lb dumbbells, and two kinds of resistance bands. I also picked up a center-mounted child seat for my trike so that Ceinwyn can sit up front while Phaedra rides in the trailer when we go for bike rides.
I haven’t quite settled on a routine yet (going to do more research & watch some YouTube videos) but I did a few exercises today, as well as shiatsu stretching beforehand. I’m also going to try to quit drinking alcohol, although I’m not setting any specific goals for that yet. I always end up falling off the wagon with that one, unless I’m pregnant - then it’s easy for me to avoid alcohol. I’ve realized that one reason why I drink is because I look at it as “me time” ~ so I have to commit to a healthier and more productive alternative [i.e. exercising, working on my novel, crafting]. Eating healthier food is another long-term goal to add to the list…
I need to remind myself to get on the scale tomorrow morning for a baseline. I don’t know how much I weigh right now and I’m a little terrified. I want to at least get back down to my pre-1st-pregnancy weight (180 lbs). I gained less than 25 lbs during each pregnancy, but I wasn’t able to drop it before I got pregnant with Phaedra, so I probably weigh about 220 lbs now. Yergh. Keeping track of my weight will hopefully keep me motivated, but I really only care about building muscle, fitting into my clothes better, and just feeling good for once!
